Best places to visit in the north of Nicaragua

Welcome back to a new blog by Mansión De Chocolate. Today we are going to talk about the options of traveling to the north of Nicaragua. The north of Nicaragua has a very beautiful nature, and is very diverse from the student city León to Esteli with the Gorditos and Gorditas to the nearby Somoto Canyons.

The ride from Granada to the most north is really breathtaking. With a lot of green surrounding and beautiful mountain roads. the cost is really low, take a bus from Granada to Managua(C$25), and then from Managua to Estelí(C$80(direct)). and then to get to the Somoto Canyons you can take the bus from the same bus station at 7:30 to Somoto.


León

León is the second largest city in Nicaragua after Managua. It was founded by the Spanish as Santiago de los Caballeros. León has got a lot of historic Spanish colonial churches, secular buildings, and private residences. Due to the university season with many students coming from other regions of Nicaragua Leon is getting more and more bigger in population.
Near León you can also find the Poneloya beach on the pacific side of Nicaragua.

Estelí

Estelí is the third biggest city in Nicaragua, like we talked about in the blog over Manos Nicas, they work with a lot of artist in Estelí. In Estelí you can find the Gordos and Gorditas, but it is also a very big sport city with a professional football(soccer) and a professional baseball team. Furthermore you can find a lot of nature near Estelí like waterfalls and diferent nature reserves, it is also a 2 hour bus drive away from the Somoto Canyons.

The Somoto Canyon, one of oldest rock formations in Central America, has become one of the main attractions of Northern Nicaragua due to its recently "discovered" tourist potential. It is an impressive site with a unique scenario. Between its walls, visitors can undertake various activities. In Somoto you can find inhabitants that live in communities and they clean the Somoto area once in a while with all the inhabitants of the communities.

The various activities that you can do are very exciting Like canyoing – climbing and jumping of cliffs and for the extremist among us you can rappel in the Somoto Canyons up to 60meters.
